Aussie Beers

Aussie culture includes a lot of drinking. You can find your typical pint (570 mL) at and bar for around $9-$14

A “schooner” (425 mL) you’ll probably be paying about $8-$13.

If you’re like me and want to try a beer from Australia, you have a lot to choose from, but depending on what you choose you might get some heat.

Your most common beers are:

  • XXXX Gold (four x)
  • VB’s (Victoria Bitter)
  • Great Northern or Great Northern Super Crisp
  • Stone & Wood
  • Coopers
  • Carlton Draught

There are much more but I found these to be the most common. Now which one will Aussies give you crap for? You’re going to have to find that out for yourself, think of it as a conversation starter. You’re welcome. If you’re not a beer person Vodka cruisers are nice but are quite sweet, they also have alcoholic ginger beer which is a nice change up from time to time, if you want the hard stuff, Bundaberg rum is a local classic.

I guess I should also mention that alcohol is sold in a liquor store instead of your local grocery store, which might be new to you. Unfortunately Australia doesn’t have the cheapest alcohol no matter where you are. But one thing you have to have when you’re there is “Goon” which is slang for boxed white wine. It is not by any means good, but $14 for 3-4l she’ll do the trick. Cheers mate.
